"Hayu Leilot" (There Were Nights): Songs by Yaakov Orland
Sing-along with the Orchestra series
A series of public singing performances in the Theatre's concert hall with the participation of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra conducted by Eldad Shrem
Featuring: Chani Dinur, Ella Tadmor, Eli Gorenstein and Yuval Bilgorai
Yaakov Orland was a pivotal poet/songwriter in Israel's pre-state years and the early days of statehood. Having immigrated from Ukraine, he immediately connected with the most prominent light music composers. The songs that resulted from this cooperation helped shape the new State's image and ethos. Songs such as "Hayu Leilot" (There Were Nights), "Hatender Nossea" (The Truck is Driving), "Zecharia ben Ezra" (Zachariah, son of Ezra), and many others were on everyone's lips, and they continue to be sung to this day. Over the years, these songs have become milestones of popular Israeli culture.
Among the songs performed at the concert: "Rav Halailah" (The Night is Long), "Ani Nosse Imi" (I Carry with Me), "Shalechet" (Autumn), "Etz Harimon" (The Pomegranate Tree), "Shnei Shoshanim" (Two Roses), "Hayu Leilot" (There were Nights), "Nagan Ugav" (The Organ Grinder) and more.
