Badhhonim, Klezmorim un Hazonim

'The Wonderful World of Yiddish' series

Editor and Lecturer: Dr. Mordechai Yushkovsky – Researcher of Yiddish Literature, Culture and Folklore

Traditional Jewish Art and Its Reflection in Yiddish Literature

We'll deal with original Jewish art forms stemming from Jewish tradition and the Jewish way of life. We shall meet famous badkhns (jesters, practically standup artists), e.g., Elyakum Zunser, and their work. We will show how cantors' chanting was portrayed in Yiddish literature and talk about the uniqueness of klezmer music and its connection to the music of Eastern European peoples—bringing examples of these three genres.
